Seymour Helping Hands Founder receives national recognition

Each year NextStar Media accepts nominations for Remarkable Woman of the Year and their local affiliates choose one local winner to represent them at the National Awards in Hollywood, California. There were over 38,000 women nominated with 112 women chosen for the finals. KFDX in Wichita Falls had 44 women nominated and they chose Seymour native Kimberly Stevenson as their Remarkable Woman of the Year.

Kimberly Stevenson founded Seymour Helping Hands in 2021 as a Facebook page that grew into a Virtual Community Center. She has previous volunteer experience with the American Red Cross, Boy Scouts of America, and served several years on the Board for the North Texas Children's Aid Society in Wichita Falls.

In 2022 Seymour Helping Hands received recognition by both the State of Texas and IRS to qualify as a 501C3. Over the last year they have accepted items from people willing to donate and passed those items on to others in need. These items have included furniture, appliances, baby items, and so much more. During the holidays they have donated toys to the Fire Department and Turkeys and other items to families nominated by others. The long term goal of the group is to create and build a physical Community Center to assist Baylor County residents.

As part of the Remarkable Woman promotion Kimberly was flown to Hollywood, California for the National taping of the awards show. She spent April 2-4 enjoying the sites and sounds of Hollywood through taping of the National show, seeing the sites through Starline Double Decker Tours, and activities including a star studded banquet in hers and the other local winners honor. Special guests included Leeza Gibbons, Cookie Johnson, and Jennifer Hudson. Throughout the event the ladies also received recognition from stars such as Reba McEntire and Jennie Garth and Tori Spellings. The National Show should air on KFDX in April.

Kimberly was awarded a Walk of Fame Star award to take home as well as $1000 to be donated to Seymour Helping Hands. When asked about the experience she stated "It was an honor to be nominated and to have the opportunity to meet so many Remarkable Women. The chance to represent Seymour on a National scale and bring recognition to the volunteers that I work with every day was wonderful".
