As spring unfolds in Texoma, it brings with it the potential for powerful thunderstorms. In March, SHH proudly presented the Thunder Teddy Program at a local elementary school, aiming to educate our young community members on storm safety.
Dedicated volunteers Kimberly Stevenson, Ely Barton, and Sandra Barton, along with KFDX meteorologist Michael Bohling, delivered vital information on how to stay safe during these unpredictable weather events. Attendees learned crucial distinctions between weather alerts: a "Watch" serves as a warning to remain vigilant for possible severe conditions and to prepare for shelter, while a "Warning" indicates that a thunderstorm or tornado has been sighted, signaling immediate danger in the area.
To reinforce this important knowledge, every child who participated received a thoughtful gift bag filled with a Thunder Teddy bookmark, a lollipop, a sticker, a pencil, and an informative sheet to share with their parents, empowering them to take an active role in safety discussions at home.
Seymour Helping Hands is committed to fostering a safer, more informed community and looks forward to bringing more educational programs to our area in the future. Together, we can ensure that our children are equipped to face the challenges of nature safely and confidently.
